Eclipse Square – Crochet Lacy with Flair

Eclipse Square

Hey Gang, Jane back today with another fun crocheted granny square tutorial called the Eclipse Square.

I first came up with this design while I crocheted my way through the recent big Solar Eclipse in my part of the world.  So, she is named after that special day. It has a little more of a lacy flair to it, which makes it great for soft throws or summer sweaters.

If you’re looking to explore more captivating color combinations for your squares, hop on over to my Instagram and Pinterest. I love sharing lots of pics of my colour experiments there!

Eclipse Square

As always I have a full walk through tutorial for the Eclipse Square over on my YouTube, you can find the videos below. I have divided the video tutorial up into 3 parts.  This square has a few more complicated sections to it’s pattern and I wanted to take my time to explain them slowly and with lots of detail.  You can work through each of the 3 videos at your own pace and in your own time without getting overwhelmed or lost in the process.

I would suggest this square is an advanced beginner level, and it will help to have some familiarity with working decreases as well as all the types of stitches from single crochet through the treble stitch.  The first few rounds of this one are pretty straight forward,  however rounds 4 and 5 get a little more involved as I worked some interesting and not so familiar stitch combos in there.  But no worries if you are newer to crochet and want to give the Eclipse Square a try,  as I will be working through it in real time in the videos, all the way through, so you can follow along with me as I go.

This first tutorial will cover rounds 1 through 3 of the square, with Part 2 working through rounds 4 and 5, and Part 3 finishing off with rounds 6 thru 8.

The final completed measurement of all 8 rounds is 8″ x 8″.

Although I am working this tutorial using a worsted weight yarn,  It also works up great using a DK weight. I have worked this one into a cropped summer sweater design as well.
