Modern Crochet Pillow Finished Sizes:
Individual Square Size – 5″ x 5″
Pillow Cover Size – 17″ x 17″

Special Instructions for the Modern Crochet Pillow
- Change yarn to new colour in the last part of the final stitch of the old colour, ie, work final yo in new colour before pulling through loop to complete stitch.
- For Rnds 1 thru 3, carry colour not in use at back of work by working over it, this eliminates cutting and rejoining the same colour, repeatedly. For Rnds 4 and 5, I suggest cutting ( fastening off ) and rejoining the yarn when needed. As the piece gets larger, carrying the unused yarn behind your work is more likely to pull on and affect the squares tension.

Pillow Assembly
Make 2 Pillow Tops – One for Front of Pillow, One for Back of Pillow
Crochet 16 Squares as per Diagram and Chart above for each Pillow Top
Place Finished Squares in layout of diagram above
Always place squares in same orientation. ie place them with final st of rnd 5 at top center. There is a very slight bias slant to this design and you want the squares to look consistent
Using the whip stitch method join the squares, first into 4 strips of 4 squares each, and then join the 4 strips to each other.
This tutorial will walk you through the Basics, step by step of joining your squares using a simple whip stitch
Edging The Modern Crochet Pillow
Once the squares have been joined work an edging around the outer edge as follows:
Using 4.00mm hook, Join Col Linen with a sl st in top left corner of square #1 in ch-2 sp, ch 2 ( counts as first hdc ), hdc in each st and ch-2 sp down long edge of joined piece to opposite bottom corner ch-2 sp of square #13, ( hdc, ch 2, hdc ) into ch-2 sp, continue to work along the next edge as established, into the corners of square #16, and square #4, then returning along top edge to square #1, join rnd with a sl st in 2nd ch of beg ch-2, fasten off.
