hey everyone Jane here with another fun and simple crochet Square tutorial last week I showed you how to make a single

color Square using a back and forth technique this week we're taking it up a notch with the two-tone version the

stitch pattern is exactly the same but this time I'm going to demonstrate how to work it with two colors if you

useful for the two-ton Square because it eliminates the need to carry yarn across your work making it neat and easy this

for this demo I'm using a 5 mm hook which is a US size 8 or an H however if

you're following along with the crochet quilt throw I recommend using the 5.5 mm hook this slightly larger hook gives the

squares a softer more flowy feel perfect for the throw and as always I keep a

pair of scissors and a darting needle on hand for Finishing Touches at the end when making these squares for a throw be

sure to leave a long tail when fastening off for my crochet quilt throw I use a whip Stitch method to join the squares

and by leaving longer Tails I minimize the need to attach New pieces of yarn which means fewer ends to weave in when

finishing before we dive in let's talk about my use of the terms right side and wrong side I'll use these throughout to

help you stay oriented as we turn the work and ensure that we're facing the same direction for each round while the

square itself is fully reversible each side has a slightly different texture keeping track of the right side and

wrong side will also be important when we Assemble the squares for the final throw this way we can create a

consistent cohesive look on both sides with all the textures aligned okay let's

get started on our two-tone Square now in a previous tutorial I showed you how to do the solid version of this square

and in this one we're going to learn how to do a two-tone now I have two different colors here we're going to work with a red and a an off-white but

these give you a different versions of working with colors and how it will look

so remember this is was the original square and we worked back and forth and now we're going to do two

colors so that half of the square is one color and half is the other color and

it's going to go on the diagonal so it gives a really cool geometric look that you can use in a lot of patterns so

because the Red's a little easier to see I'll choose that one to start with it really doesn't matter which one you start with because when the square is

finished it's hard to tell where you started and where you ended which is good you can do this with a chain three

Foundation where you chain three stitches join them into a ring but I like to do the challenging thing so I'm

going to show you how I do it with a magic ring with two colors we start as we do a normal magic ring lying the yarn

over our Palm with the cut in facing us we wrap around our first two fingers

holding it with your thumb cross underneath hold that with your thumb and

back over three fingers then you take your hook and go under the first over

the second pull it through and twist it onto the hook then I go ahead with a

chain one by going over the one with over our third finger and pulling that through to lock it in place and creating

our first chain one magic ring is ready and now we can start our round one round one requires half double crochets so I

need to start with a chain two since I already have a chain one there I only need one more chain and that's our first

ring but I need six in red and six in the off white so I'm going to do five to

start with because I will change my color in the sixth half double crochet

this counts as our first one so I need to do four more and we do that simply by

hook now I'm going to change my color so it does seem to take some coordination

to make sure you keep everything in place while you're changing the colors so I drop the working yarn the red and I

pick up the white while I hold everything in place with this hand my right hand I get that

off off we ready to go as if I was joining it to a new round I wrap it around my hook and I pull it through all

three stitches that are on the hook now I have a lot going on here but I do have

my new color on my hook the working red yarn just leave it to the back and don't

worry about it it'll seem kind of loose here but we'll pull that up and darn that in at the end the off white yarn we

what I do is I work over the other two cut ends see how I have the two cut ends

right here I'm going to work over top of those and into the ring at the same

time and I leave my working red yarn to the back I don't touch

just to see the basics for this square but in this one because we have two different colors that's really going to

help us find what stitches we're working into so I want to do a half double crochet so yarn over and I'm going to go
