Hey Gang, Today we are going to make a simple and modern geometric style square I call the Summer Side Square.
You may recognize this one as I did make it into a hexagon tutorial, but the original inspiration for this was, just me, trying to create a square shape to work into a simple but colourful geometric style, crocheted sweater. I was thinking something I could work into a cropped, summer style, hence the name, Summer Side Square. The sweater itself will be in a future tutorial.
You may notice if you follow my tutorials, I absolutely love circles and rings. So I have lots of different squares with these elements in them, all a little different, but they really are my favourite pieces to create projects with.
If you’re looking to explore more captivating color combinations for your squares, hop on over to my Instagram and Pinterest. I love sharing lots of pics of my colour experiments there!

I am switching up my usual worsted weight yarn today for a dk. I find the dk makes a lighter sweater for summer and I really love this particular dk yarn by Mary Maxim.
This square has 4 very simple circular rounds before we square it off on the fifth round. From there I add 3 rounds of a sc, ch 1 border. You can add as many or as few of these rounds as you like to make the square a size that suits your project idea.
My finished sample Summer Side Square measures 5″
I will be using a 4.5 mm crochet hook.
Other tools you will need are a pair of scissors and a darning needle to work in your ends.
So, pick your favourite colours, gather your supplies, and let’s begin our Summer Side Square.
