Hey Gang, Welcome back to my Crochet Corner. In today’ tutorial we are going to break free from the classic square shape and make a quick and easy hexagon. I’m going to turn the Zippy Crochet Square into a Zippy Crochet Hexagon. If you haven’t made a hexagon shape yet, then this is a great place to start.
If you’re looking to explore more captivating color combinations for your squares, hop on over to my Instagram and Pinterest. I love sharing lots of pics of my colour experiments there!
If you would like the pattern for the Zippy Crochet Hexagon as a PDF, with Symbol Charts, Find it in my shop, HERE,
The inspiration for this one came from a desire to make a good old fashioned hexagon shaped blanket. My very first crocheted project was a hexagon afghan.
I wanted a simple and quick square that I could use lots of colours in, just like my Zippy square, and then I realized… I could use the Zippy Square pattern as my basis and reshape it into the Zippy Crochet Hexagon.
I also thought it would be fun to try working hexagons together in a join as you go method, just as I did the square shape. So watch for future tutorial on that, I have one that we will be making a trivet with just 7 of these pieces, and then another one where we will go full out with a blanket, that you will be able to make as large as you want.
The Zippy Crochet Hexagon will follow the same first 3 rounds as the original Zippy Square and then on the 4th round we shape it into a Hexagon by working 6 corners instead of 4.
The Zippy Crochet Hexagon measures 4″ from straight edge to straight edge and is 5 rounds total.
I will be using a Worsted Weight Yarn today and a 5.0 mm crochet hook
In addition to yarn and a hook, you’ll also need a pair of scissors and a darning needle for this project.
So, pick your favourite colours, gather your supplies, and let’s begin crafting our Zippy Crochet Hexagon.
