Hey guys, Jane here with another crochet tutorial and this time we're going to learn how to
0:05
work in our ends. I love creating with color, the more the better, but working with a lot of color also means
0:11
you're going to have a lot of ends to tie in. So one of the biggest questions I get is what do you do with all your ends
0:18
And I'm going to show you how I work them in as I go so I don't have all those ends
0:22
to work in when my project is finished. So this is going to be a three part series and I'm going to work through three rounds
0:28
of a sample square that you're probably already familiar with. I always find it easiest to explain a technique using an actual sample square
0:35
So I'm going to do this one using my mandala square. You can find the free full walkthrough for this on my YouTube channel as well as the
0:41
free written instructions and I'll link to it below as well as up here in the corner
0:45
So we're going to focus on these first three rounds because they have the variety of stitches
0:50
that will give you lots of techniques to work further up into the square
0:54
What your goal is, is to have the back nice and clean so that when you're finished the
0:58
square, all your ends are worked in and you won't have to worry about that when you go
1:02
to sew your squares together. So if you love color work and you love to make lots of squares but you're scared of
1:07
those ends, let's get going and I will show you how to work them in
1:11
And you're going to find color work is a whole lot more fun. Now if you're ready, let's start round one
1:16
So I'm going to show you how I work the end that I start with into that beginning round
1:23
So again I just do my little slip knot where I make a pretzel and I put my hook in and
1:27
pull that up and then I go ahead and I chain the first four
1:31
So we'll get this started before we start working our end in
1:35
And we slip stitch to form our ring. So here's the end that we're going to want to work in
1:41
And I want to work 16 double crochet and the first one is always a chain three
1:46
That counts as my first one. So we go ahead and we chain three with our working yarn
1:51
And we wrap our yarn around to get started for our double crochet
1:55
And we go into this center loop. And here's where we start working our yarn in right from the beginning
2:04
So we take this end that we started with and we lay it over top of our hook
2:09
And then we work our stitch. So the knot that we created is going to be tucked down there
2:14
You're going to be working over that as well. Wrap the yarn around and pull it up
2:18
We got your three loops. And this thumb and finger on this hand are very important to hold the tension properly
2:26
And then you finish this stitch. So we now have the end anchored in place and we're going to continue to work over top of
2:37
it as we work into the ring. So you want to hold this yarn as if it's part of this first chain ring
2:44
So you're going to go yarn over, insert into the loop, making sure that that yarn is lying
2:50
over top of the hook. And you're going to complete your stitch
2:56
And that's another double crochet. So it's getting worked in at the back
3:00
So I'm going to go ahead and do the 16 double crochet, including the chain 3
3:06
And I'm going to show you what it looks like at the back. And now we've reached my 15th, which is actually 14 double crochet in a chain 3
3:14
So I'm going to work one more. And again, I have been carrying this yarn all the way around
3:19
So make sure it lies on top of your hook and you work underneath it
3:24
So it's still lying there. Finish that last double crochet. And then at this point, you either work an invisible join or you slip stitch to finish
3:34
your round, which we won't do at the moment. I just want to show you what the back looks like
3:39
So see here, we have the end and it's been worked in all the way around this hole
3:47
So what I like about working this in is that if I don't want that little hole to show
3:53
I can just give this, put your thumb on top of where it is there and give it a little
3:58
bit of a tug and it just cinches it in so the hole isn't quite as big
4:02
That's just personal preference. Now from here, I go on to round 2
4:06
You have two choices with this. I'll show you how you can work it into the next round or you can leave it there and then
4:12
you can turn it backwards. A lot of people like to go in the opposite direction just to secure it and around a few
4:20
times that way it'll never come out. But I can also show you how you can pull it up into the next round in the next video
4:27
Join me in the second video of this series where I'll show you how to carry the center
4:31
end into the next round to secure it as well as how to secure the new color so it doesn't
4:36
show through the chain stitches. I'll see you there
